Uses of Vibration Analsysis

Manufacturer's Specification Analysis

This is a single survey on machinery by machine manufacturer for purchasing reference and warranty enforcement. Many specifications and standards have been developed for operational vibration for specific machines types.

Installation Inspection

A single, baseline survey after contractor or manufacturer has installed machine assembly to ensure proper set-up, commonly used for warranty enforcement and plant engineering reference. Large corporations have vibration standards and specifications which determine acceptance of a new or rebuilt machine. It also provides a baseline to evaluate machine condition before the warranty expires.

Continuous monitoring

Vibration sensors and signal processing devices are permanently installed on-site to provide "continuous" readings of vibration levels. This technique is most often used on expensive automated machinery that are vibration sensitive or produce products that are, such as a steel mill. It is also used in locations that are hazardous or inaccessible during machine operation.

Periodic Monitoring

Used primarily in conjunction with a preventative maintenance program to recommend corrective action on failing machinery. Often, periodic monitoring is used to evaluate the condition of equipment maintained by outside contractors.
