Period and Amplitude

The two basic properties of sinusoidal functions are PERIOD and AMPLITUDE.

The PERIOD is a quantity of time between the start and finish of an event. If this event consistently repeats it becomes PERIODIC. The word periodic can be defined as having repeated cycles measurable over a unit of time. This is similar to the definition for FREQUENCY. The international unit for expressing frequency is Hertz (Hz) and represents the number of cycles per second. Two other units associated with frequency are cycles per minute (CPM) and revolutions per minute (RPM). To avoid confusion between CPM and RPM it is important to note that RPM should be used only to describe rotational speeds.
